What to Expect

Thank you for your interest the classes. They will be a mixture of basic Pilates exercises, stretches, balance exercises, good posture and movement awareness. At the moment there is no distinction between level/skill of the classes, I have simply chosen a variety of times and locations to give people a choice.

I hope to make the classes light hearted as well as educational so people gain a better understanding of how to manage their physical health and can incorporate what they learn into their day to day lives.

Although I will be bringing my experiences as a Chartered Physiotherapist to my classes, I will not be able to provide individual assessment or treatment during the classes except for general advice given as part of the class. If you feel you want physiotherapy treatment then either email me at aqphysio@outlook.com or speak to me before or after a class.
About You

Some exercises will be floor based therefore you will need to be able to get down onto the floor (and up again!). There will be no judgement over style and ease of getting up and down off the floor! Chairs can be used to assist standing up from the floor, but I cannot provide manual handling assistance in a class setting.
Attendees will need to be able to follow simple commands regarding movements and have a cognitive awareness of their own safety i.e. only work at a level they are comfortable and safe at.
There will be some standing balance movement exercises. One handed support can be used as necessary for safety with balance, but these classes would not suit people who need both hands to maintain their standing support/balance
If anyone is unsure if they would suit the class format please feel free to attend a class to observe.
Medical Form. Although I can’t do individual assessments, I will be asking for a simple confidential medical questionnaire to be completed before starting a class so I can screen for any possible serious concerns.
Footwear, Clothing and Equipment

Supportive, non slip footwear will be needed for stepping/standing movements.
For some exercises you may be more comfortable going barefoot or wear non slip socks.

You do not have to be lycra clad but please ensure you are wearing clothes that are comfortable and allow a full range of movement. There will be some lying on your back so bulky waistbands or belts are not recommended. You may wish to have light layers so you can remove layers if you warm up or add a layer if you feel cool.
You will need a non slip mat and some towels (sufficient to support your head in correct alignment when folded).

I do have some spare mats I can bring along but please ask in advance as I will not have these with me as a matter of course.
Cost

The cost is currently £10 per session which is paid when you attend.

Payment can be via cash on the day or bank transfer.
